Gorakhpur
Gorakhpur is a small town in the north eastern part of Uttar Pradesh which would have always remained a nondescript place but for two reasons. First reason is that it is located very close to Kushinagar which is a Buddhist pilgrimage. Another reason is that the famous Saint Gorakhnath has blessed the place with his profound thoughts. In fact, the name of the place has also been derived from his name. Gorakhpur is located on the banks of rivers Rohini and Rapti and today the town is mostly known for its handloom products.

Arogya Mandir - As the name of the place itself suggests, it is a naturopathy centre where you can visit for complete health though the attractive building that it has with the lush green surroundings is just a bonus for your eyes. The Arogya Mandir was established in the year 1940.

Kushinagar
Nirvana TempleKushinagar is a small place located at the distance of only 53 km from Gorakhpur. Buddhists consider this place very pious for themselves as it was chosen by Lord Buddha for his Mahaparinirvan so that he could attain freedom from cycles of death and rebirth.

The place was known as Kushinara earlier and was just a small town in the Malla kingdom. Kushinagar went into oblivion and remained that way for a long time. It was rediscovered by the archaeologists in the end of the nineteenth century. Kushinagar is now becoming increasingly popular among the tourists especially the Buddhists. It is also fast developing as a centre for International Buddhism and is also home to many viharas which include Tibetan and Burmese viharas whereas China and Japan have built temples here.

Kushinagar Attractions

Nirvana Temple - The presence of six meters long statue of Lord Buddha in the reclining position here is what makes the Nirvana Temple special and famous among the visitors. This statue was discovered in the excavations of 1876 and is prepared from Chunar sandstone.

Rambhar Stupa - Located at the distance of 1.5 km in the south eastern direction from the Nirvana Temple, the Rambhar Stupa is situated amidst rice, wheat and cane fields.

Buddhist Special Train - Lumbini

Good Morning
We know it's early yet we have to wake you up as we have to leave early after breakfast for the tour of Lumbini which is located in Nepal.

Lumbini
Buddha birth in Lumbini mural painting in Mahabodhi buddhist templeLocated in the Terai plains of Nepal, Lumbini is a place of profound importance as it is the birth place of Gautam Buddha. It is about 250 km away from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Lord Buddha was born here as a Shakya Prince and the place is marked by a pillar erected by Emperor Ashoka of India.

Lumbini is sacred to all the Buddhists of the world and the site is being developed with international support with an aim to position this place as the supreme Buddhism pilgrimage for the Buddhists all across the world. The different shrines being built by many countries of the world are all following the architectural traditions of their respective countries which gives the place a unique international feel thereby spreading the message of universal friendship.

The village of Tilaurakot is the place which is believed to be the site of Kapilvastu Royal Palace. The place is important for the followers of Buddhism because Prince Siddharth Gautama (the name by which Lord Buddha was known earlier) was born here, though he left it all at the age of 29 years in search of enlightenment.
Lumbini Attractions
Sacred Garden - Sacred Garden is the most important site of Lumbini spread over an area of 8 sq km. The historic times of Lord Buddha are evident everywhere in this garden. There is an International Monastery Zone near the garden where many countries and international bodies are building temples and monasteries. So far, the construction work of several temples has finished which includes Myanmar Temple, International Gautami Nuns Temple, China Temple and The Nepal Buddha Temple.

Ashoka Pillar - Located near the sacred garden, see the Ashoka Pillar with an inscription which states that Lord Buddha was born at that place and the pillar was erected to mark the occasion.

Mayadevi Temple - The Mayadevi Temple is located on one side of the Ashoka pillar. A stone having a foot print on it has also been excavated from the place which, it is said, indicates the exact place of birth of Lord Buddha.

Pushkarni Pond - Legend has it that Queen Mayadevi took bath in the Pushkarni Pond before giving birth to Prince Siddhartha Gautama.

The Lumbini Museum - The Lumbini Museum is situated in the cultural zone and the collection on display here includes Mauryan and Kushana Coins, religious manuscripts, terracotta fragments, stone and metal sculptures. An extensive collection of stamps from various countries may also be seen here.

Kapilvastu Museum - Situated in the village of Tilaurakot which is about 27 km away from Lumbini, the Kapilvastu Museum displays a rich collection of coins, pottery, toys, jewelery and ornaments.
